While Wonder Valley’s idyllic 75-acre facility offers beautiful surroundings and endless activities, the resort also makes the perfect base camp for a wide variety of exciting side trips to nearby locations.
Tour groups, often made up of lively senior citizens, agriculture and business groups, or sight-seeing visitors from around the world, make the shady grounds of Wonder Valley a “destination” by itself, as the resort offers plenty to see and do. No one will blame you if you simply want to stroll the tranquil grounds, sit by the fire and chat, or enjoy one of the many available activities – but if you want to get out and see the nearby sites, the options are nearly unlimited.
Daily excursions vary by season, and include trips to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, a wine crush, a visit to the historic downtown area of Reedley, antique shopping in Old Town Clovis, and adventuresome walks through the intricate maze of tunnels and living rooms at the Forestiere Underground Garden, in addition to these very special tours:
Ag-Venturous Outing: After breakfast the group will head to the town of Visalia to visit the History of Tulare County Farm Labor & Agriculture Museum to enjoy timeless exhibits and multi-media presentations that celebrate the history of California’s Agriculture. Lunch will be served in serene Mooney Grove park, then off to Ivanhoe to visit Seven Sycamores Ranch, a family owned orange grove. At the Orange grove you will learn about the trials and technologies that are synonymous with running a large ranch. During your tour you can explore the world’s only orange grove maze, and see displays of not only farm equipment, but various farm animals. Our last stop will be Simonian Farms, a family owned farm that has been in operation since 1901. Their fruit stand sells over a hundred varieties of produce, while their new barn creates the perfect atmosphere for wine tasting.
Foothill Fall Frolic Tour: You’ll marvel at the beauty of this colorful time of year. This tour can also include a very special wine experience as you visit local boutique wineries and even have the opportunity to participate in an old fashioned grape stomp. The tour’s themed night includes a hilarious and unpredictable Vaudeville review starring the madcap Wonder Valley staff. Visit the resort over Thanksgiving and enjoy a traditional turkey dinner with special holiday entertainment.
The Christmas Court Feast and Festival: Transport yourself back in time to the days of the Renaissance Court and “Eat, Drink and be Merry” with the Lord and Lady of the court. You’ll be entertained by a raucous pageant of musicians, singers, and magicians who will ensure you have an evening to remember and a trip that you’ll want to repeat year after year.
Holiday Tours: Celebrate the holiday throughout the month of December with a traditional party, jingle-belled horse-drawn hayride, caroling, and even a visit with Santa himself. The trek to “The Nation’s Christmas Tree” always provides an interesting and moving side trip this time of year.
New Year’s Celebration: Special holiday entertainment, New Year’s Eve party with noisemakers, dancing, champagne, and much, much more. Watch all the New Year’s Day bowl games on the big screen TV and eat from an extensive buffet – or enjoy fun activities geared for non-sports fans.
Blossom Trail and Wildflower Tours: Tours arriving in late February through mid-March will be treated to orchards exploding with fruit and nut blossoms. Tours arriving late-March through May will marvel at the abundance of glorious wildflowers.
Majestic America Tour: January-March. A unique tour showcasing our majestic national symbol, the bald eagle – also includes an entertaining trip back to the days of the USO Stage Door Canteen shows.
